Survey of author's attitudes to open access is released.

The JISC has released a major survey of author's attitudes to Open Access archiving. The report was commissioned from Key Perspectives Ltd, and has been produced by Alma Swan. Many of the findings make interesting and encouraging reading. Maybe significantly, for any forthcoming policy development by funding agencies, this survey includes information about authors' attitudes to a mandate to deposit material. The survey found that 81% of authors would willingly deposit material if required to do so: a further 13% would do so reluctantly. Only 5% said they would not comply. This shows that policy developments like that from the Wellcome Trust which require deposition as a condition of grant, will be widely acceptable.
