Another study has been released that supports previous findings about the advantage of Open Access in increasing citations for an article. The study, Citation Advantage of Open Access Articles by Gunther Eysenbach, has been published in PLoS Biology and concludes:
"We found strong evidence that, even in a journal that is widely available in research libraries, OA articles are more immediately recognized and cited by peers than non-OA articles published in the same journal. OA is likely to benefit science by accelerating dissemination and uptake of research findings."
This study joins previous research by Antelmann and others across a number of disciplines that shows the real benefit that Open Access can have for individual authors. The study is, of course, available as an Open Access eprint through the PLoS Biology site.
